I’ve written here recently how I’m losing the game of Work-Life Tetris, unable to fit together all the various blocks which rain down on me. I can’t say that I’ve solved this problem, only that I’ve realised why I’ve been loosing.
I’ve started to make a change. It means breaking some long engrained habits.
My system for capturing actions is finely tuned with new content going into Omnifocus regardless of the source, a verbal request or from email. I can efficiently plan my next actions but I can’t ever account for the rate of new actions coming in.
But the fundamental problem is I generally have a full day before I even start, and I’ve not been taking account my existing workload before I start new a new day, with new content. With so many items populating my Omnifocus Forecast view, I’ve not seen the value in using this view to drive my day when I can’t further filter Contexts.
I’ve started to make a change. It means breaking some long engrained habits. However combined with scheduling blocks of time I’m hoping this will make a significant and more importantly sustainable difference.
